Full Form of RTO is the Regional Transport Office or Road Transport Office.

It is a government organisation in India that is in charge of providing services like car registration, issuing driver’s licences, collecting excise taxes like the road tax, and enforcing traffic laws. There is a Regional Transport Office in each state and city (RTO).

The Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 lays out the duties and obligations that each RTO must do. According to reports, RTOs in India are the most corrupt sector since they accept bribes daily. In an effort to reduce corruption, Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport, advocated in 2014 that RTOs be partially closed while online functionality was expanded.
